SALVATORE FERRAGAMO
Hand-crafted by skilled artisans, each pair of shoes from Salvatore Ferragamo takes ten days to manufacture in a painstaking production cycle consisting of 134 different stages. The result: shoes of unequalled excellence. Salvatore Ferragamo creates high-fashion women's and men's shoes of the most exalted style and quality, including exquisite women's fashions in pumps, ballerina flats, slides, sandals, and flip-flops; and men's footwear including two-toned Oxfords, patent "derby" shoes, lace-ups, moccasins, sneakers, espadrilles, and flip-flops.
For almost a century, Salvatore Ferragamo has been known as Italy's most illustrious shoemaker. He started making women's footwear in the early 1920s, and held such distinctions as inventing the wedge shoe for Judy Garland in 1938, winning the Neiman Marcus Award for his "invisible" sandal in 1947, gaining a reputation as "shoemaker to the stars" in the 1950s, and creating the "crocodile court shoe" for Marilyn Monroe in 1959. Now led by Salvatore's descendants, the company still sets the highest fashion standards, adding men's footwear in the 1970s, creating shoes for Madonna's 1996 roles as "Evita," and all the while expanding into apparel, accessories, and even fragrances while becoming a global brand of the highest reputation.
