The Kenneth Cole brand was launched in New York in 1982 by then-upstart young designer Kenneth Cole, who, under the guise of shooting a movie, parked a 40-foot trailer filled with his shoe designs across from the New York Hilton, where the big annual shoe fair was under way. He sold 40,000 pairs, his entire available production, in just two and a half days, and ever since has been known for his smart, irreverent approach to business, his exceptional designs and quality, and his unswerving commitment to supporting social causes through the shoes he advertises and sells.
