The Merrell brand began in 1981 with handcrafted hiking boots designed by Randy Merrell, a maker of custom boots. The following year, he banded together with two former Rossignol executives to form the Vermont-based company, which still thrives and continues to win awards for its innovative and exceptionally comfortable footwear.
